We currently live in Eckbolsheim, a village of 6,000 people in the Alsace region of France. “Heim” means “village” in the Alsation language, so you pronounce our village as “Eckbols-heim”.

Eckbolsheim is located 15 minutes away from the Strasbourg city center. It is in biking distance to the city of Strasbourg and to the hospital where Vincent works as an anesthesiologist. The bike path is along the Canal de la Bruche which connects Strasbourg to villages 20km away to the west. We often walk and bike along the canal path for fun and we both commute to work by bike, even in the winter!

We enjoy living in Eckbolsheim because it is close to nature and hiking, but not too far from Strasbourg’s dynamic center - it’s the best of both worlds. The village itself has many iconic half-timbered houses (called colombages in French) and is the home of Strasbourg’s equestrian center so there are often horses being walked or ridden through the town!

We are currently looking for our first house and hope to stay in the vicinity of Eckbolsheim and nearby villages such as Wolfisheim, Oberschaeffolsheim, Achenheim, and Entzheim. While these look far away on the map, by 2025 they will be connected to Strasbourg by a new extended tram line or by a commuter train that runs every 15-30 minutes during the week.
